Looking for a fun way to build more focus with your dog? Whether you’re preparing to take a Canine Good Citizen test, Therapy Test or venturing into the world of dog sports, Rally helps you build a great foundation with your dog and can help you in many other teamwork events. AKC Rally® is a companion sport to AKC Obedience. This dog sport requires teamwork between dog and handler along with performance skills similar to obedience. Rally provides an excellent introduction to AKC events for new dogs and handlers, and can provide a challenging opportunity for competitors in other events to strengthen their skills. You can learn more about Rally and how it works here.
Lucky Dog’s Rally classes refine your dog’s basic manners and have real life applications, in addition to preparing you to enter AKC Rally-O and Cynosport trials. We use positive training techniques in a fun and supportive environment.
A fantastic first step into Rally! You’ll learn the basics of how to navigate the courses and what to expect at your first trial, as well as the foundation behaviors you’ll need to compete. We’ll work on formal heeling and make our way through the signs you may see in AKC Novice and WCRL Level 1. We’ll also begin putting the signs together into short courses to prepare you for your first trial!

This class is for teams that are confident in their understanding of AKC Novice and WCRL Level 1 signs and doing them in courses 12-19 signs long. This is an ideal class for teams who are already competing at the Novice level and are ready to transition to more off-leash heeling as we prepare for the Advanced level of competition. We’ll focus on practicing full Novice courses, as well as learning signs for the Level 2 and Advanced classes.
Completion of Beyond the Basics or evaluation with instructor approval
$100 for a four-week class that meets for 50 minutes, once a week
While the name sounds similar to learning basic manners, training for competitive obedience prepares your dog to execute precise maneuvers in a trial situation. Your dog will learn the essentials of sit, down, and recall, but also more advanced cues like standing for exam, group sit-stays, and competition heeling. This sport is mentally demanding and helps strengthen your dog’s focus and engagement.
Lucky Dog currently only offers drop-in classes for obedience. If you haven’t taken classes with us before but would like to sign up for an obedience class, please email email@example.com to discuss which class would best fit you and your dog.
Beginner Novice/Novice Obedience
This class covers the skills required for AKC Beginner Novice and Novice classes. Some of the behaviors you’ll learn include the sit and stand for exam, heeling patterns on and off leash, sit-stays, and recalls. You’ll also have the opportunity to practice group stays and and figure eights. And to top it all off, we’ll polish up fronts, finishes, and halts.
