How Can We Help?

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I take a puppy class or Manners 1?

If your puppy is five months or younger on the class start date, you should enroll into a puppy class.  If your puppy is over five months old when the class begins, you should take a Manners 1 class. Right on the border? Medium to large breeds should start in Manners 1 and small breeds should start with a puppy class.

Can more than one person come?

Absolutely! We recommend that one person works with the dog during class, but other family members or friends are welcome to attend class and watch or help. If you bring children under 10, we suggest bringing a book or iPad to keep them occupied.

What do I need to start class?

Puppies need a minimum of two sets of vaccinations before they can attend a group class. Your vet may tell you to wait until your puppy has all 3 sets of shots before going anywhere- while this does minimize the risk of illness, you also miss out on the critical socialization window of 8-16 weeks! We keep a very clean facility and check the vaccinations of every dog who walks through our doors, so two rounds of vaccines is enough to start. The sooner you start training, the better!

Do I need to sign up online or can I pay when I get there?

Please sign up online to reserve your spot.  Our classes typically fill up and we can not guarantee that there will be space available on the day the class starts.

What do I need to bring to class?

Please bring your dog’s vaccination records to the first class. In addition to your dog, owners need to bring a flat collar or harness with a six foot leash. We prefer that owners bring a bag of small treats, a clicker, and a treat pouch since they are required for class. However, we sell all of those items here, at Lucky Dog, including much more. Our prices are better than the prices in most pet supply stores, so we recommend that owners buy the required items at their first class at Lucky Dog.

We also suggest that owners bring doggie bags in case their dogs need to do their business. If you forget to bring doggie bags, we keep those handy at our doggie station located near the grass area.

Do you work with aggressive dogs?

No, aggressive dogs are not allowed in the facility for liability reasons. Please contact a behaviorist to help with aggression. We do work with frustrated greeters and fearful dogs in private lessons only. If you're not sure whether your dog is exhibiting aggression or fear, please give us a call or fill out the contact form above.

Do you offer service dog training?

We do offer service dog training on a limited basis. We require dogs to have passed the Canine Good Citizen test before beginning any public access or task training.

What's your return/cancellation/refund policy?

All of our policies are outlined on our Terms, Conditions, and Policies page. Cancellation policies are also included in the confirmation email you receive when booking a class or appointment.
